Matthew Corey Schulz: Teacher dies aged 45 while awaiting trial for child sex offences

A child abuse suspect and former teacher at a prestigious private school has died three months before he was to go on trial.

Matthew Corey Schulz, 45, was charged with sexual abuse of a child and two counts of sexual intercourse with a person without consent.

Schulz is said to have died on Thursday, The Advertiser defeated.

The former teacher was working at Trinity College in Gawler, 42 kilometres north of Adelaide’s CBD, when he was arrested.

The allegations have nothing to do with his time teaching at the school and do not involve students at Trinity College.

Court documents show the offences took place between 2011 and 2012 at a location in Adelaide’s northern suburbs.

Schulz, from Cockatoo Valley in Adelaide’s north-east, was due to appear in court in November.

Under South Australian law, the offence of child sexual abuse carries a maximum penalty of life behind bars.
