One dead in shooting at Franklin High School in El Paso
Police have shot and killed a man in his 50s at a high school in El Paso, Texas.
According to officials, an El Paso Independent School District officer shot the man outside the campus of Franklin High School in West El Paso.
The incident occurred before the start of classes (6:00 a.m.) and no students were injured.
A number of students who were participating in a cross-country race and were near the location at the time were taken to a secure area.
School Principal Amanda Bowser released a statement Thursday morning confirming that classes were canceled due to an “incident overnight.”

The area will remain closed while the investigation continues
“Police are investigating, please stay away from this area,” she wrote in a warning on the school’s website.
“The safety of our students and staff is our top priority and we are working closely with authorities to address the situation.”
El Paso ISD confirmed in a statement that no students were involved.
“There is no danger to the community, students or staff. One person has died as a result of this incident. Outside agencies are assisting El Paso ISD with the investigation.”
The El Paso ISD serves 95 schools and more than 60,000 students in West Texas, making it the largest school police force in the region.
Police Chief Manuel Chavira said his team received an initial report of an incident on campus Thursday morning.
He assured the community that no students, teachers or staff were affected.
The area will remain closed while the investigation continues.
