Manchester United have confirmed the sale of Facundo Pellistri to Panathinaikos for £5.1million with an additional £1.7million, taking the total transfer fee to £6.8million.

The deal includes a 45 percent sell-on clause, while United also have a buy-back option until 2027.

United confirmed the transfer on their official website on Wednesday evening, after several days of negotiations with the Greek club over the transfer fee.

Pellistri’s last appearance in a United shirt came earlier this month in the Community Shield against Manchester City at Wembley.

The Uruguayan winger played the final half hour as United went down on penalties to the reigning Premier League champions.

That was the last of his 25 games for the Red Devils, after failing to become a regular in the first team since his move from Penarol in 2020.

He was loaned twice to Spanish club Alaves, before joining Granada temporarily for the second half of the season.

Pellistri, 22, returned to Old Trafford at the end of last season hoping to finally cement a place in Erik ten Hag’s squad, but he fell back down the pecking order.

The Dutch manager picked Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo as his two wingers for United’s opening match of the season against Fulham last Friday, with Alejandro Garnacho and Antony on the bench.

Along with Jadon Sancho, Pellistri was missing from the 20-man squad, indicating his time at United was up and he was now leaving.

He is also unlikely to be the last player to leave United this summer, with Barcelona reportedly keeping a close eye on Sancho, while Napoli are interested in Scott McTominay.

United could also bring in players between now and the end of the transfer window and are reportedly close to signing PSG midfielder Manuel Ugarte.

United’s first game without Pellistri is on Saturday afternoon when they travel to the Amex Stadium to face Brighton.
