A teenage boy who was killed by a falling tree branch while collecting firewood with his father is being remembered as a “kind and gentle soul”.

Malakai Revill, 17, was felling trees in Dover, in Tasmania’s far south, when he was struck by a branch at about 4pm on Sunday.

Despite the efforts of the police and emergency services, Malakai unfortunately died at the scene.

His father was treated for injuries that were not life-threatening.

A GoFundMe campaign organized by Joanne Denehey-Shreeve has raised more than $5,000 to give Malakai the “farewell he deserves.”

She said the Revill family is going through an “extremely difficult” time at the moment.

“On behalf of the Revill, Beattie and Shreeve families, I would like to thank everyone who participated, donated or shared my post,” she said.

‘Especially because I honored the beautiful young man Malakai Revill, a truly gentle, kind soul and the best friend you could wish for your child.

“I feel that thanking all of you is not enough to make this possible. I am so proud to live in a place where we support each other when we need it.”

Tasmania police told Daily Mail Australia the investigation is ongoing.

“It is expected to take some time before everything is completed,” a spokeswoman said.
