An international footballer has been sacked by his club after his wife accused him of domestic abuse and infidelity to Peruvian pop star Pamela Franco.

Pamela Lopez Solorzano, the wife of Christian Cueva, accused the 32-year-old Peruvian player of “choking” and “strangling” her. She told a TV program that she “feared for her life” and had “suffered for years.”

The former LaLiga midfielder denies being an ‘abuser’ but apologises for ‘what did not happen’.

Lopez has filed a complaint with the Lima Supreme Court, requesting “protective measures against her husband for physical and psychological violence.”

Cueva is one of the most capped players in Peruvian history, having played 100 times for the national team, including at the 2018 World Cup and four times at the Copa Americas.

On Instagram, he posted a lengthy statement acknowledging his “inexcusable” behavior but denying that he was an “abuser.”

“Violence is unforgivable and my behavior, even if it was not spontaneous but a reaction, is also unforgivable,” he began.
