NBA insider Shams Charania ‘LEAVES Stadium after six years’ as free agency looms

While Shams Charania is normally the first to report on NBA players leaving, the respected insider has now started keeping an eye on free agency as well.

On Monday, the New York Post reported that the 30-year-old Charania has decided to leave Stadium after six years with the outlet.

Charania presented Stadium’s weekly programme ‘Inside the Association’ and appeared regularly on the daily programme ‘The Rally’.

More importantly, Charania starred on multiple shows surrounding the NBA Draft and free agency, generating spectacular ratings on social media.

State Farm and AT&T were among the sponsors for the content Charania created for Stadium.

His departure from the network comes as his deals with The Athletic and FanDuel TV are also nearing the end. Whether he will remain with either or both remains to be seen as contract negotiations continue, sources told the New York Post.

The Chicago native’s career began when he covered the Bulls for ChicagoNow. He then began writing for RealGM before joining Yahoo Sports, where he landed high-profile contracts in the summer of 2016.

Charania reported on Dwight Howard’s move to the Atlanta Hawks, DeMar DeRozan’s move to the Toronto Raptors, Luol Deng’s move to the Los Angeles Lakers and Jamal Crawford’s move to the LA Clippers.

On August 14, 2018, Charania announced via X (Twitter) that he would be leaving Yahoo for The Athletic and Stadium.

In addition to his departure from Stadium and uncertain future at The Athletic, the NBA is busy planning a new rights deal with Amazon Prime Video and a return to NBC after a more than 20-year absence.

Both platforms are looking to assemble a large roster of NBA talent for studio programming and other additional content in the coming months.
