No, you won’t find any Switch 2 news on the Nintendo Museum Direct livestream

Nintendo announced on Sunday that it will hold its next Nintendo Direct on August 19, but told viewers not to expect game announcements or news about the successor to the Nintendo Switch, also known as the Switch 2.

“Join us tomorrow, August 19 at 3:00 p.m. PT for a tour of the Nintendo Museum, scheduled to open in Kyoto, Japan in fall 2024,” Nintendo posted from his X account“The Nintendo Museum Direct livestream will last approximately 10 minutes.”

But it was soon followed by a warning: “Please note, there will be no game announcements or mentions of the Nintendo Switch successor during this presentation.” It’s a classic case of expectation management. Nintendo knows its players are eagerly awaiting news about its next console, and it wants people to know that they won’t find it here. A bummer, yes, but it would be far worse for players if there were no details about what to expect. (Why would you expect Switch 2 news during the museum tour, of course? I don’t know!)

The Nintendo Museum tour sounds fantastic, though. Nintendo announced in 2021 that it planned to transform its Nintendo Uji Ogura factory in Kyoto, Japan, into a museum designed “to showcase the many products Nintendo has launched throughout its history,” it was in a press releaseThe original building was built in 1969 to produce playing cards and Hanafuda Cardsas well as a “customer service center for product repairs,” Nintendo said.

Nintendo has only shared in-progress renderings of the new Nintendo Museum, so Monday’s tour will be the first in-depth look. As Nintendo said, it’s expected to open in the fall.
