Priscilla Presley shares heartfelt tribute to Elvis Presley on 47th anniversary of his death

Priscilla Presley paid tribute to her late ex-husband Elvis Presley on Friday to mark the 47th anniversary of his death.

“47 years old and not a day goes by that I don’t think of you,” the 79-year-old businesswoman shared in a touching post on Instagram.

And it’s a fitting gesture: the mother of Elvis’ only child, the late Lisa Marie Presley, sang the tribute, set to an instrumental version of the classic hit Always On My Mind.

The video featured a black and white photo of a young Elvis and ended with a black screen with the text: ‘Elvis Aaron Presley, January 8, 1935 – August 16, 1977’

Elvis recorded Always On My Mind on March 29, 1972, the day after singer Gwen McRae initially released it as a single.

The first version was released just a few weeks after Elvis and Priscilla split in February, leading many to believe that Wayne Carson, Mark James and Johnny Christopher wrote the song especially for the King of Rock and Roll.

For years, many fans thought that Elvis’ marital problems inspired the song and that it better suited his musical style.

The rumors were fueled by the fact that James had already written the hit single Suspicious Minds for Presley.

Carson ultimately stated that Always On My Mind was not written for Presley, but for any man, and that he considered it “one long apology.”

It turns out that Presley had already released his cover of Always On My Mind as the B-side of Separate Ways in October 1972, but both songs are considered his best work of the 1970s.

The song has lived on through the years, with hundreds of recorded covers by a variety of artists, but Elvis’ version is the first to become a commercial success.

As the B-side to Separate Ways, the song was certified gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for sales of over one million copies.

It eventually became a double A-side and reached number 16 on the Billboard Hot Country Singles chart in November 1972.

By the time it hit the UK market, Always On My Mind was billed as the A-side, making it a Top 10 hit in January 1973.

Priscilla Presley’s message to her ex-husband follows the arrest of a Missouri woman accused of masterminding a scheme to defraud the Presley family by auctioning off the iconic Graceland mansion and estate.

Lisa Jeanine Findley, also known as Lisa Holden under a variety of other aliases, 53, was charged with mail fraud and aggravated identity theft in a criminal complaint made public Friday, according to NBC News.

Findley, 53, made her initial appearance in court Friday afternoon in Springfield, Missouri, where she was appointed a public defender.

The Kimberling City resident is accused of claiming that the late Lisa Marie Presley borrowed $3.8 million from a fraudulent private lender and put up Graceland as collateral for the loan before her death last year, prosecutors said.

Authorities allege she threatened to sell the Tennessee estate to the highest bidder if the Presley family did not pay a $2.85 million settlement.

As part of the scheme, Findley is accused of forging names, signatures and notary seals to create false loan documents, according to charging documents filed by the Associated Press.

Graceland opened in 1982 as a museum and tourist attraction and attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year.

Findley is charged with mail fraud and aggravated identity fraud. The mail fraud charge carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.

At this time, the suspect remains in custody until she appears in court.
