Golf course horror as man found dead in pond after being trapped

A golf course worker has been found dead in a pond after becoming trapped under equipment in a horrific incident.

Christopher Plowman, 38, of Tiffin, Iowa, was found “completely submerged” in the water at the Pleasant Valley Golf Course in Iowa City after authorities received a report of a drowning death at 1:39 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

According to the Johnson County Sheriff’s Office, Plowman was “pinned under maintenance equipment and had been there for an unknown amount of time.”

The sheriff’s office says it is investigating the incident.

Tributes have poured in for Plowman on social media, describing him as a beloved husband and father.

“Chris had the special talent of making everyone around him feel welcome and valued,” wrote one distraught friend.

“When my family was about to leave this city, he and Jessica were the ones who made us feel connected to this community. The rest is history.”

One of Plowman’s school friends recalled in a tribute that he and his old friend “laughed, drank beer and ate together.”

“My heart is heavy tonight and everyone keep your wives and kids and the old school lot people in your prayers,” he wrote. “They’re going to need it because this is tough.”
