Perth students hospitalised after eating drug-laced lollies

Police have issued an urgent warning after schoolchildren who ate drug-laced gummy lollipops were rushed to hospital.

A high school student in Perth’s west was caught on Wednesday in possession of gummy lollipops suspected of containing THC, the psychoactive ingredient in cannabis.

Police launched an investigation and discovered that two other students from the same school had eaten the sweets and had been taken to hospital a day earlier.

The 17-year-old couple were taken to Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital after school on Tuesday and were discharged later that evening.

An investigation is being launched into the origin of the drug lollipops.

“Western Australia Police are urging all students from schools in the western suburbs who have purchased or been given gummy lollipops in recent days to not ingest them,” a statement said.

‘If you have taken a gummy lollipop and you feel unwell, seek medical advice immediately

“If you have gummy lollipops in your possession, do not swallow them.”

The warning came after three people were taken to hospital as a precaution after spitting up meth-laced sweets they received in a food parcel, in a separate incident in Auckland.
