Trump risks Melania’s fury as he compares wife to his political nemesis Kamala Harris during Musk X interview

Donald Trump said during his interview with Elon Musk about Kamala Harris’ Time Magazine cover that he thought the vice president looked like his wife and former first lady Melania.

Harris was featured on the cover of the long-running magazine despite continuing to refuse personal interviews.

The magazine used an illustration of Harris with the headline “Her Time,” and Trump indicated he thought she was a familiar face when he spoke to Musk during their conversation at X Spaces.

“She looked very much like our great first lady, Melania,” Trump told Musk as they discussed the cover photo for Monday’s issue.

Trump also appeared to mispronounce Kamala’s name, though this time it sounded more like “Camilla.”

“She didn’t look like Camilla, but of course she’s a beautiful woman, so let’s leave it at that,” Trump said of the cover.

Time’s new cover story on Harris features the phrase “Her Moment,” along with a black-and-white illustration of the vice president.

Trump noted this and called it a “free ride” from the media, saying the photo presented her as “the most beautiful actress who ever lived.”

The magazine was criticized for publishing the story in which Harris refused to be interviewed. Republicans are furious that she has not given an interview since Biden left the campaign and made way for her.

Musk’s interview with former President Donald Trump ultimately began about 40 minutes later than scheduled.

He said his conversation with former President Donald Trump would take place before a smaller audience and that he would release an audio recording immediately afterward, after a technical problem disrupted Monday night’s programming.

Musk said his website, X, had been the victim of a cyberattack, which was why the interview with Trump could not load.

“We tested the system earlier today with 8 million concurrent listeners,” the SpaceX and Tesla CEO emphasized.

X users were greeted with loud music when they tried to enter Donald J. Trump’s ‘Space’ to hear the former president speak with X owner Elon Musk.

Finally the music stopped and a rustling sound was heard.

But then it appeared that Trump had tempered his stance.

The long-awaited interview was scheduled to begin at 8 p.m.

The SpaceX and Tesla CEO then explained that the Q&A would be a conversation and not a hostile interview.

“It’s hard to get a sense of someone if you don’t hear them speak in a normal way,” Musk said.

The technical gaffes that plagued Trump’s interview Monday night were reminiscent of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ attempt to launch his 2024 presidential campaign on the social media platform.

In May 2023, DeSantis announced via X that he was running for president, but the site crashed.

Trump joked about his rival at the time.

“Wow! The DeSanctus TWITTER launch is a DISASTER! His entire campaign is going to be a disaster. WATCH!” Trump wrote on Truth Social at the time.

DeSantis only survived the Iowa caucuses, finishing a close second behind Trump.

He tried to gain support in Nikki Haley’s home state of South Carolina, but dropped out before the first primary in New Hampshire, where he endorsed Trump.

Once they got going, Trump and Musk talked about a variety of topics, with many of Trump’s responses reminiscent of the multi-topic vocal swings that characterize his rallies and speeches.

These included anecdotes about his interactions with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un and Russian President Vladimir Putin, as well as criticism of what both men described as the Democrats’ failure to secure the U.S.-Mexico border and reduce crime in American cities.

There was also specific talk about Harris, with both Trump and Musk warning about the direction they thought she would take the US as president.

Much of the friendly conversation felt less like an interview with a newsmaker and more like a conversation between like-minded allies, which seemed to be Musk’s intention.
