An Australian shopper used Kmart’s new $7.50 rubber broom and squeegee after she vacuumed her house — but was shocked to find her carpet was still “dirty.”

The disgusted woman found layers of invisible dirt, dust and hair after using the new product.

After recommending the budget buy on Facebook, opinions were divided on whether the broom is a “must have” or whether it actually pulls up some of the carpet.

“Get one for yourself. No matter how much I vacuum, there is always at least that much to sweep away! That’s just a small piece,” the woman wrote.

She added that if you want to “increase” the cleanliness of your carpet, you should also use a lint roller.

The woman shared her discovery with the popular Facebook group ‘cleaning and organizer inspiration Australia’.

What is the best way to clean a rug or carpet?

* Vacuum the bottom instead of the top of a large carpet to clean it, the dust just falls out of the carpet and can then be swept up

* Sprinkle baking soda on your carpet before vacuuming to clean and deodorize

* Wet your rug and apply a layer of shaving cream on it, then take it outside and use a high pressure hose to blow off the shaving cream

* Spray Nifti all-purpose cleaner on the stain, put a clean towel on it and iron it for a few seconds and the stain will disappear

Many online seemed eager to buy the latest broom for themselves.

‘I think I’ll go to Kmart,’ one woman commented, another wrote, ‘I don’t even have a carpet, but I want one now.’

“I love the silicone broom. I also use it on my carpets, and I also think it’s good for getting cobwebs,’ said one.

Opinions on Facebook were divided as to whether the broom and lint roller are a good idea, or whether they are too harsh on the carpet and actually pick up carpet fibers rather than just dirt and hair.

However, other group members thought the brush was too hard and all the ‘dirt’ found was actually carpet fiber.

“That’s pretty much carpet fiber,” one woman commented.

Just a tip from someone who’s seen so many customers ruin their carpet – if the ‘hair’ that the rubber broom or lint razor pulls ominously out of your carpet doesn’t sound familiar to you. It’s actually the carpet,’ one man advised.

“The rubber broom creates friction and pulls wires and the razor essentially shaves the top of the pile.”

But the woman assured everyone that what she brought up was dog hair, saying, “It’s pretty much dog hair and dirt, obviously carpets aren’t white.”

Shared images show her carpets are gray and the debris is white.

Online reviews for the Kmart product are very positive, with only two of the 58 ratings below four stars.

“Great for collecting cat hair – it sticks to the rubber bristles really well,” said one woman.

‘Great product. Sweeps everything off the floor, especially useful for her,” wrote another.
