Dave Portnoy places BOLD $100K bet on Indiana Fever to win the WNBA championship with superstar rookie Caitlin Clark
Dave Portnoy is betting everything on Caitlin Clark.
The WNBA Finals may still be a month away, but the founder of Barstool Sports has already placed a bold bet that the Indiana Fever will take home the championship.
“Caitlin Clark is one of the top three players in the league. Maybe the best. She got her first rest in a year,” he wrote on X on Sunday.
“Ayliah Boston and her chemistry is growing every game. They started 1-8. Since then they’re 10-7 and it’s getting better. I had to do it,” he added, alongside a screenshot of his $100,000 bet.
Fans were divided over the high stakes, especially since the Fever’s only championship came more than a decade ago, in 2012.

“100,000 on a throwaway bet is madness,” one fan wrote in response.
Another suggested: ‘You’re probably a year too early with this, to be honest.’
Others were more optimistic. One fan wrote: ‘With those odds it’s worth a shot, you never know!’
A second added: “This will go down in history as the best bet in history,” while another simply called it “bold.”
If Indiana exceeds all expectations and takes home the Commissioner’s Cup Trophy, Portnoy will earn a whopping $10,100,000.
The controversial media tycoon is no stranger to high-profile sports betting.
Portnoy earned $1.6 million when the Boston Celtics secured their 18th franchise title against the Dallas Mavericks in June.
After beating Luka Doncic, Kyrie Irving and the Mavs in five games, Jayson Tatum, Jalen Brown and co. won Boston’s first title since 2008.

While the team celebrated with green and white confetti at TD Garden, the Barstool Sports president enjoyed another big win on a futures bet.
Portnoy turned a $100,000 bet into a huge payout by combining the Celtics’ title win with RBC Heritage’s Scottie Scheffler win.
“It’s not about the money but I’ll take the quick 1.6 million,” the 47-year-old wrote on X with a screenshot of his bet slip.
He previously claimed earned $5.4 million in the first four months of 2024 alone, after solid results in golf, college basketball, NFL and college football.

Portnoy would have pocketed $1.2 million if the Oilers had beaten the Panthers, after betting $150,000 on Edmonton in April.
“The streak ended last night. I can’t be mad at the Oilers. They did a great job,” Portnoy wrote on X at the time.
