Bob Tischler, former head writer of Saturday Night Live, has died at the age of 78.
His son Zeke told The New York Times His father died on July 13 at his home in Bodega Bay, California, from complications of pancreatic cancer.
The Times notes that Tischler played a role in the revival of Saturday Night Live in the early 1980s, after the variety program had declined.
The series had its worst season from November 1980 to April 1981, as the publication calls it.
Tischer was hired as a producer in the spring of 1981 and became the series’ head writer the following year.
