Aussie driver is slammed for appalling act after he was pulled over by a cop – as shocking footage emerges

Shocking footage of a motorist speeding away from a police officer after being pulled over has sparked outrage among Australians, who have criticised his behaviour.

The 32-year-old driver filmed the incident on his phone after being stopped by the Queensland Highway Patrol in Brisbane in May.

An officer was seen speaking through the driver’s window, explaining to the motorist that the car appeared to be unregistered.

“Do you have your driver’s license?” he asked.

“No, I’m just going about my day,” the driver replied before driving away.

The frustrated officer yelled at the driver, demanding that he stop.

“No, you’re being held!” he said.

The driver replied, “See you later, brother.”

The man continued filming as the officer got into his car and turned on his lights and siren, likely to chase the driver.

The alleged driver, who was not registered, tried to remain calm and said, “God bless him” as he ate a strawberry.

However, viewers were quick to point out that the driver’s hand was shaking, a clear sign of stress.

“Your hands are shaking when you hold that strawberry, mate,” someone said.

“The shaking hand with the strawberry,” another wrote, adding laughing emojis.

Other commentators called the driver an “idiot” for filming and making the incident public.

“Take a simple traffic violation, turn it into a criminal offense and film the whole thing… Yeah, that’s smart,” one person wrote.

I suspect [he] was picked up right after the video ended,’ said another.

“Haha, and then they also film someone touching a cell phone, eating while driving and evading the police,” wrote another.

Drivers caught failing to stop for a police officer in Queensland face a $5,500 fine or 50 days in jail.

The fine for driving an unregistered car ranges from $313 to $417, depending on the engine size of the vehicle.

Queensland Police said in a statement that the diver had received multiple fines for allegedly failing to follow police instructions.

“It is alleged that on May 12, police were conducting patrols on Mount Cotton Road in Sheldon just before 2pm when they intercepted an unregistered Nissan Patrol,” the report said.

The driver stopped but did not follow the officer’s instructions and drove away.

It is further alleged that the following day police attempted to intercept the same Nissan Patrol on Tilley Road near Gumdale.

‘The driver initially stopped, but drove away again before police could get to the vehicle.’

The driver was identified as a 32-year-old man from Algester.

“The man presented himself at Capalaba Police Station the following day, May 14, and was issued a summons to appear on two charges of evading police and two charges of driving without a licence (SPER revoked),” Queensland Police said.

He was originally scheduled to appear in Cleveland District Court on June 26.

‘He was also issued with traffic offences including two TINs for driving an unregistered vehicle ($495 x2), driving without insurance ($619 x2), using number plates assigned to another vehicle ($123 x2) and one TIN each for using a hand-held mobile phone ($1,161) and failing to drive on the left on double continuous lines ($278).”
