Jenna Ortega criticizes Hollywood for being ‘politically correct’ saying it results in a loss of ‘integrity’

Jenna Ortega spoke candidly about her feelings on Hollywood’s “politically correct” nature.

During an interview with Vanity FairThe 21-year-old actress, who stars in the Beetlejuice sequel, began by saying that the entertainment industry is “so airy-fairy.”

“Everyone wants to be politically correct, but I feel like we lose a lot of our humanity and integrity in doing so, because it lacks honesty,” she told the publication.

The Wednesday explained that she wished society had ‘a better sense of conversation.’

“Imagine if everyone could say what they felt without being judged, and all that would happen was debate, not arguments,” she explained.

“Am I describing world peace?” she asked in a clearly playful tone.

She seemed to be hinting that her Scream 6 colleague Melissa Barrera would be fired from the next installment of the horror series after posting a message expressing support for the Palestinians in Gaza.

Ortega rose to fame for her role in the Netflix series Wednesday, which became the most-watched series during Thanksgiving 2022.

She was nominated for a Golden Globe, SAG and Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy.

“For most of the last year and a half I felt very distant from myself,” said Ortega, who described the experience as “very dissociative, strange and out of body.”

“When people say my name, it’s almost like my name has been taken away from me. Now I feel like I’m floating and… I’m open to interpretation,” she explained.

Ortega called the concept of fame “completely ridiculous,” but he was passionate about acting.

“I remember feeling really wrong for standing up to it,” she told the outlet. “I think if someone were to be in my shoes and respond to it with hospitality, there’s something seriously wrong with you,” she said, displaying her dark sense of humor.

When it comes to Wednesday’s many fans who dress up as her and attend her Vanity Fair shoots, for example, Ortega has an interesting perspective.

‘Who would have expected that someone as dark, twisted and sarcastic as Wednesday could bring so much joy?’

“Wednesday’s intelligence, humor and confidence are something many of us would like to have,” Ortega noted.

“When you try to create yourself and you take all those bits and pieces of other people’s personalities and create your own broken mirror out of that…” she paused.

“Everyone wants to be politically correct, but I feel like we lose a lot of our humanity and integrity in doing so, because it lacks honesty,” she told the publication

“I’m sorry, I can’t think right now,” Ortega said as she collected her thoughts.

“I think that’s the beauty of Wednesday. She’s inspiring because she’s someone who doesn’t care what other people think.”
