The 21-year-old, who was five months pregnant at the time, was so happy that she had already chosen the name Leena-Rose for her unborn daughter.
Leah, from Cwmbran, just north of Newport, went to her grandparents’ house on August 1st to lie down, feeling unwell. However, she was unable to wake up hours later and sadly died along with her baby.
Now the tributes are pouring in for the expectant mother who just wanted to ‘receive love and be loved back’.
Leah Roberts, 21, was so excited to become a mother for the first time that she had already chosen the name Leena-Rose for her unborn daughter
Leah, from Cwmbran, just north of Newport, went to her grandparents’ house on August 1st to lie down, feeling unwell. However, she was unable to wake up hours later and sadly died along with her baby.
Leah’s family is heartbroken and has yet to receive answers as to why she died so mysteriously. However, friends have paid tribute to her online and set up a fundraising page to help pay for her funeral.
Family friend Becky Davies said: ‘She had gone out during the day and gone back to her grandparents’ house because she wasn’t herself. She lay down for a couple of hours.
‘Someone came to call Leah to ask if she was going somewhere, and her grandfather went to her bedroom to wake her up, but he couldn’t.
“He went to her grandma and told her he couldn’t wake her up, so she went into the room and realized something was wrong, so he got her off the bed and started CPR. That was it, she just went and took a nap and never woke up.”
Tributes have poured in for the expectant mother who ‘just wanted to love and be loved in return’
Becky said family members and emergency services worked on Leah, from Cwmbran, Gwent, for more than an hour but neither she nor the baby could be saved.
“She was the most selfless person you could ever meet in your life. She certainly didn’t have an easy life, but all she wanted was to love and be loved in return,” she said.
‘Family was very important to her. She always said she was going to be a mother.
‘She would take my kids out, her brothers out. She would walk into a room and whether she had a bad day or not, she would always ask if you were okay.
“She was just sweet, talkative and funny. She was a huge joker with a big heart.”
Becky, who set up the fundraising page, said: ‘I’m just trying to raise enough money so they can have a proper send off. It’s hard enough losing your daughter, but when you lose your grandchild at the same time, it’s got to be one of the most heartbreaking things I can imagine.’
One of the memorial messages read: ‘I love you so much and will miss you forever. The world is so cruel, you deserved so much more than what the world had to offer for you and your beautiful baby girl… rest in peace in paradise my girl.’
An inquest into Leah’s death is expected to begin at Gwent Coroner’s Court later this month.
