Lewis has not performed for some time since his Glastonbury appearance in June 2023, as he has struggled to sing due to his symptoms of Tourette’s syndrome.

At the time, Lewis had just emerged from a three-week period of putting his mental health on hold to “rest and recover.”

Back on stage, Lewis admitted he was “not scared at all” to perform, spoke openly about his mental health struggles and confirmed he would be taking a break from the spotlight after the show.

Halfway through his performance, Lewis admitted that he had Tourette’s syndrome, saying that his voice had given out after coughing the entire show.

Tourette syndrome is a neurological disorder characterized by a combination of involuntary sounds and movements called tics, which can cause speech and voice abnormalities.

Despite his problems, Lewis continued to perform and his fans supported him. The show came to an emotional end when the crowd sang Someone You Love for him.

The heartwarming moment came when Lewis walked across the Pyramid Stage and sang short snippets of the song, as the crowd sang along at the top of their lungs in support of the star.

After his performance, Lewis wrote on social media: ‘The fact that this probably won’t come as a surprise doesn’t make it any easier to write.

‘I used to enjoy every second of these kinds of shows and I hoped that after three weeks of absence I would be back on my feet.

“But the truth is that I am still learning to deal with the impact of my Tourette syndrome. Saturday made it clear that I need to spend a lot more time getting my mental and physical health in order so that I can continue to do what I love for a long time to come.

‘I feel really bad for everyone who was planning on coming to a show before the end of the year, but I need to feel good to be able to perform at the level you all deserve.

“Playing for you every night is everything I’ve ever dreamed of, so this has been the hardest decision of my life. I’ll be back as soon as I can.”

Six months later, on New Year’s Eve, Lewis told his fans: ‘I’m very pleased to say that I have noticed a definite improvement in both since I decided to take some time off in June.

‘For now, I’m going to take some time to take care of myself. Maybe write some music and just reflect on the most incredible years of my life.

‘I want to make absolutely sure I’m 100% before I actually go back to performing and doing what I love most!

“These songs mean the world to me and I would hate to not be able to share them. I hope this sustains you all until we can all sit in a room and sing them together someday soon!”

Lewis also thanked the fans for their support, saying their reaction was: ‘I’ve never experienced anything like this before and it’s made me more excited than ever to get back to doing what I love in the not too distant future.’
