Australian cycling hero Conor Leahy received a kiss from his glamorous girlfriend after helping his country beat arch-rivals Great Britain in the men’s team pursuit.
Debutant Leahy, along with Oliver Bleddyn, Sam Welsford and Kellan O’Brien, won gold at the Paris Olympics, where they defeated the dominant British. In the deciding match they set a fast time of three minutes and 42.067 seconds.
After sealing his fate as Olympic champion, Leahy headed straight to the crowd, where he was embraced by his girlfriend Zara Awramenko.
She later congratulated her boyfriend and his teammates via Instagram.
“Olympic champions,” she wrote alongside the four gold medal emojis.
‘Congratulations guys, on this epic race and a gold medal.’
The quartet broke the men’s world record in the semi-final on Tuesday, but did not have to run at the same high pace to beat the British.
It was a thrilling finale, but two British riders touched wheels on the last lap and nearly crashed, losing their lead.

Leahy was only a reserve for the Tokyo Games and could not contain his joy after Wednesday’s victory.
“I don’t think I’ve processed it yet,” he told Nine. “Especially what happened last cycle. I just wanted so badly to be part of that team and be so close to it. It’s driven me so hard to get to this position.
‘But today it’s about winning, and I know we did everything we could to achieve that, and I can’t believe it.
“It’s unbelievable.”
