How does Kate Winslet look so good ahead of turning 50? Star is so ‘proud’ of the lines on her face she swears Botox is ‘against her morals’ – yet she’s hardly aged since her Titanic days
Kate Winslet turns 50 next year and in a world full of celebrities turning to fillers and Botox, the British actress is turning the tide on aging in Hollywood.
In a new interview, the Titanic icon revealed that she “refused to cover her stomach rolls” after a crew member told her to do so during the filming of her latest film Lee.
She also admitted that Harper’s Bazaar that she doesn’t mind looking less than perfect on screen, stating, “I’m proud of it because it’s my life on my face, and that’s important. It wouldn’t occur to me to cover that up.”
She has proudly flouted Hollywood’s beauty standards and is the poster child for changing attitudes, and is happy that women are accepting themselves so much more.
But how is Kate taking care of herself as her milestone birthday approaches?

The star has been a vocal opponent of surgery for years, once declaring that “it goes against my values, the way my parents raised me and what I consider natural beauty.”
Instead, she approaches it from within and focuses on what she puts into her body, especially during public appearances.
“Sleep and health play a huge role in looking fresh. If I’m overly tired or stressed, no amount of makeup and hair can hide the impact that has on someone’s face,” she said.
Kate follows a balanced diet and shares cooking duties with her vegan husband Ned Abel Smith, but she says she’ll be forgoing her favorite treats in the days leading up to the red carpet.
“I do try to take care of myself in the few days leading up to that moment. Nothing fancy or expensive… my best tip would be water. Water, water, water. Keep the body hydrated and the skin will follow.”
She adds that she “tries to avoid salt and alcohol before a big occasion and throws a few green smoothies in a Nutribullet.”
Her favorite indulgence is wine, but as she gets older, she finds that her overeating and alcohol consumption are playing tricks on her.

“When I was younger, I could get away with a lot more. But these days, I try to nourish my skin from the inside out: with good food,” she advises.
‘I don’t eat meat anymore. I drink a lot of water every day, take my supplements -when I remember!’
She understands the importance of makeup as she gets older and has built up a book of tricks thanks to her years of experience as makeup artist Lisa Eldridge, so much so that she often feels comfortable applying her own makeup before she goes anywhere.
Her signature red carpet look is a bold red lipstick. She has good reason to say that she doesn’t like “too much makeup around the eyes, which can cause makeup to build up and make you look older.”
As for exercise, Kate, like many, jumped on the Peloton bandwagon during the pandemic, declaring she was “in love” with her stationary bike.

A Peloton ride is also good for her mental health after a long, emotionally draining day on set, like the one filming the gritty crime drama Mare Of Easttown in 2021.
“That was almost the one thing I couldn’t live without, because it helped me relax,” she said of her bike at the time.
“The sweat factor, the challenge of it, the great conversations with the instructors. Sometimes I would cry, scream or cry on the bike; I can let go of so much. Learning that my body can do more than I thought it could, has taken me a long way.”
Another fitness trend Kate has adopted in her idyllic Sussex village, where she lives with Ned and their 10-year-old son Bear, is cold-water swimming, which she says improves her circulation and keeps her skin clear.
It was her husband who got her into cold water swimming. The actress called Ned a superfan of Wim Hof, the Dutch motivational speaker and extreme athlete, also known as The Iceman.
The family own a beach hut on the West Sussex coast and Kate can often be found there, warming up after a dip in the sea. However, she also applies Hof’s philosophies to her daily life, challenging herself to stand under a cold shower for as long as possible every morning.

With her healthy, refreshing and quite British approach to health and beauty, Kate is doing her bit to ease the pressure on Hollywood standards
When she’s not riding her bike or wandering around in the icy water, she goes to a power yoga class a few times a week and walks the dog with her family every day.
And with her healthy, refreshing and quintessentially British approach to health and beauty, Kate is doing her bit to ease the pressure on Hollywood standards.
“I want to say to every woman who tries to emulate a Hollywood look: It’s a myth. It really is a myth,” she told Vogue.
“Women on the red carpet have spent four hours in hair and makeup to look like that and have probably had a facial every day for the week leading up to the event. I know because I’ve been there and had so many facials.”
“It’s a moment in time. For me, the secret to growing older at any age, in Hollywood or not, is accepting who you are and accepting that we can’t stop change.”
‘Of course we can do things to support our health and our skin, to feel a little bit better and make ourselves last a little bit longer. But for me it’s about beauty coming from within and not being so self-critical – that’s a big deal.’
