Apple is finally writing checks for the butterfly keyboard fiasco. If you filed a claim, it’s time to collect
Those who filed claims in Apple’s class action lawsuit over defective MacBook ‘butterfly’ keyboards are finally receiving their compensation.
You may recall that the lawsuit was settled back in 2022, but the payouts were only recently confirmed in July 2024. Itβs certainly been a long wait, but there are now reports of affected MacBook owners receiving their payments, with claims ranging in value from $50 to $395.
The Reporter Jennifer Pattison Tuohy of Verge receive a payment for the maximum amount, which should give hope to people waiting for their own checks. In fact, those expecting a payment should get it soon, perhaps in the coming days β or at least by the end of the month.
If you feel like you’ve been left out, I’m sorry to tell you that you missed the deadline for filing a claim (and you did so by a wide margin).
In total, Apple agreed to pay a $50 Million Settlementalthough the company denied at the time that there was any improper or unlawful conduct in the matter, the company said the settlement was not an admission of guilt or wrongdoing.
Due to the butterfly keyboard issues between 2015 and 2019, Apple reverted to a scissor switch mechanism, and MacBooks produced after 2019 do not have any of these issues. So, if this is a concern for you about your recently purchased MacBook, don’t worry!
Hopefully, Apple will learn from this experience when considering what technology to use in future Macs. And while we’re on the subject, there are a lot of rumors floating around about the M4 Mac right now, with a bunch of new devices on the way this year and next.
