Hollywood star Matt Damon reveals his very special connection to a surprising Australian city

American superstar Matt Damon has revealed the special bond he has with an Australian city. And it’s not Sydney or Melbourne.

The 53-year-old Hollywood actor appeared on Channel Seven’s Sunrise programme on Wednesday alongside Casey Affleck, 48, to promote their upcoming film The Instigators.

Matt, who spends a lot of time with his family in Australia, spoke in the interview about his love for Queensland and in particular Brisbane’s iconic agricultural festival, The Ekka.

“You’re almost half Australian these days. You seem to be at the Ekka every other year,” said reporter Steve Hargrave.

“I’ve been to Ekka a few years in a row,” Matt admitted. “I don’t know if I’m going to make it this year because I have to get back to America.”

Matt then explained the festival to Casey Affleck, who was unaware of the annual event.

‘It’s great. I have to take him [Affleck] “To the Ekka,” said Matt.

The action movie star added that he is usually the one jumping on the “scary” rides, while his family prefers to watch from the sidelines.

“My kids love it because they make me go on all these scary rides and their mom refuses to go with them,” Matt said.

“So I get the short end of the stick. They enjoy watching me get tossed around on these things.”

The Ekka, formally known as the Royal Queensland Show, is Queensland’s annual agricultural show and is held at the Brisbane Showgrounds.

This confession comes after Matt recently had a conversation about his daughters and what it means to be the father of a girl.

The movie star spoke to Andy Cohen during an appearance on his SiriusXM show called Radio Andy.

Matt is the father of daughters Isabella (18), Gia (15) and Stella (13) and his wife Luciana (48). He also has daughter Alexia (25) from a previous relationship.

When asked what his best advice is for being a father to a daughter, Matt told Andy, “Oh man, I don’t know. I wouldn’t give anyone any advice other than just try to listen and be supportive. I mean, at the end of the day, it’s about building confidence.”

Andy asked him how he would react if they brought home a guy they were dating. He asked, ‘What kind of father are you if they brought home a guy and said, “I’m going to date this…”‘

Matt said, ‘Oh, I’m fine. I’m fine with that. You know what I mean?’

The actor is from Boston and Andy asked him if he uses “Boston” for his daughter’s love interests.

“You don’t act all Boston and say, ‘What are you doing with my daughter?'”

“No, no, no. That’s an old cliché that I think people, you know, like to play on. You know, dads sometimes joke about it, but no,” Matt said.
