The Queen Consort looked effortlessly elegant in a monochromatic ensemble when she arrived at the Ascot Racecourse for British Champions Day.

Camilla, 75, chose a chic black and white midi dress this afternoon for the special occasion in Berkshire.

The A-line garment had a V-neckline and a white bodice that matched perfectly with the pristine collar of her coat.

Braving the temperamental British weather, the future queen completed her look with a matching linen-blend hat, opaque tights and black suede heels.

To complete her look, Camilla styled her blonde hair in her signature waves and wore her four-position pearl necklace with a round diamond clasp.

Camilla is a hugely passionate racing fan and will be attending the last events of the sporting calendar year this afternoon.

Last month, the Mail on Sunday reported that Camilla will take over from the late Queen as the royal figurehead of horse racing – a passion she shared with her mother-in-law.

A senior race source said: ‘I think it will be Camilla now – she will be the figurehead. The plan has always been for Charles and Camilla to take over the inheritance.

“Camilla clearly loves horses and has a huge passion for racing.

“She really likes it, especially Cheltenham – the jumps. I think there’s a pretty clear plan, given the Queen’s passion and love for racehorses.”

Charles and Camilla are committed to ensuring the continued success of Royal Ascot in Berkshire.

The King has inherited about 24 racehorses and some 80 broodmares plus the Sovereign’s racing colors: purple body with gold braid, scarlet sleeves and black velvet cap with gold trim.

The Princess Royal and Zara Tindall may want to pick the mares first, but their main interest is eventing horses, not racehorses.

Although Charles was an avid amateur jockey in the 1980s, his involvement was nominal – leaving room for his wife to become the racing figurehead of the royal family.

The decision will ultimately depend on how warmly the public accepts Camilla as she steps into her new role in the coming months.

Queen Elizabeth II publicly announced during her platinum anniversary in February that Camilla would receive the title of queen consort when Charles ascended the throne.

And speaking after his mother’s death last month, the new monarch referred to his wife as such: ‘I count on the loving assistance of my dear wife, Camilla. In recognition of her own faithful public service since our marriage seventeen years ago, she will be my Queen Consort.”

But a new report from The Telegraph suggests assistants would be only too happy to remove ‘Consort’ from the title if there is public interest in doing so.

A source told the publication there is hope for a natural transition in which the public and the press will adopt the simpler, abbreviated “Queen Camilla” title.
