Simone Biles hits back at criticism from NFL star Marlon Humphrey after he said gymnast was ‘disgusting’ for bowing down to Rebeca Andrade
Simone Biles has responded to criticism she received after bowing to Brazil’s Rebeca Andrade after Monday’s Olympic floor final.
NFL player Marlon Humphrey slammed the legendary American gymnast and her teammate Jordan Chiles for their decision to celebrate Andrade on stage in Paris.
On Monday, minutes after the results were announced, Humphrey, 28, took to X to express his feelings about the two Team USA gymnasts who praised Andrade after she won her first gold medal of the summer.
“This is absolutely disgusting,” Humphrey captioned the SportsCenter post capturing the moment Biles and Chiles showed their love for Andrade.
Biles and Chiles finished second and third in the event, respectively. Andrade had torn her ACL three times in her career before winning for the first time in Paris. She now has six career Olympic medals, two of them gold (Andrade also won the vault final in Tokyo in 2021).

Biles (L) and Jordan Chiles (R) both bowed to Rebeca Andrade after her victory in the floor final
But, speaking on the TODAY show On Tuesday morning, Biles defended her decision and again praised Andrade.
She said: ‘I think it’s all about sportsmanship, and we don’t care whether we win or lose.
‘We will always keep a good face and support our competitors, because they have worked just as hard as we did for that moment.
“You have to give them flowers and that’s exactly what Jordan and I did.
“We were so happy for her. She deserved it, she had the best floor exercise of the day, and of the Olympics.”
Humphrey later received a lot of criticism from fans on social media for his bizarre take on the story.
“Yes, because it’s disgusting to give flowers to someone who has had THREE torn ACLs and is still a top gymnast,” one user replied on X.
Another Olympic spectator said the same thing: “God forbid athletes show disrespect to a fellow athlete who has suffered multiple ACL tears.”
A third told him: ‘Go to the final and win something. Then you can talk.’
“This is literally beautiful,” another user commented, in contrast to Humphery’s response.

The three-time Pro Bowler later said he felt the anger of Brazilian fans on social media, though he seemed to have forgotten that they speak Portuguese in the South American country.
“I’m secretly going crazy right now. I think I’m being called Brazilian names on Instagram lol,” Humphrey shared in a separate post.
Biles finished the 2024 Olympics with four medals, three of them gold, bringing her total to eleven.
She also praised Andrade for setting the bar high in gymnastics at the Olympics.
“I’ve never had an athlete this close,” Biles said of the confrontation with the Brazilian.
“It definitely kept me on my toes and brought out the best athlete in me. So I’m excited and proud to compete with her.”
“I’ve never been so stressed. Thank you, Rebeca.”
