Shaun Martin dead at age 45: Singer and keyboardist for Grammy-award winning jazz fusion group Snarky Puppy passes away
Shaun Martin, member of the Grammy Award-winning jazz fusion group Snarky Puppy, has died at the age of 45.
The band announced Martin’s passing in a statement posted to their X account on Sunday, along with a photo of the musician walking onto the stage.
“Yesterday we lost a musical legend and more importantly a beautiful, radiant human being. Shaun Martin touched so many people during his lifetime and will continue to do so through the beautiful immortality of music. There is so much that can be said but words cannot do it justice. RIP,” the statement read.
Martin was a vocalist and keyboardist in the group, which last year won the fifth Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Instrumental Album for Empire Central.
The cause of death is still unknown, but the musician had been suffering from an unknown illness for more than a year.
Before his death, a benefit concert for Martin was scheduled to be held in September. Erykah Badu and Norah Jones were among the artists scheduled to take the stage for the concert.
