She won both an Oscar and a Bafta for her portrayal of Elizabeth II in the acclaimed 2006 film The Queen.

Now it appears Helen Mirren is taking inspiration from the late Queen’s style for her latest role in The Thursday Murder Club, the Netflix adaptation of Richard Osman’s best-selling novel.

She wears a green headscarf and oversized glasses – similar to those she wore in The Queen 18 years ago – for the role of Elizabeth Best, a former spy and one of the drama’s four central characters.

Dame Helen, 79, also wears a khaki waistcoat similar to the one the Queen wore when she was in the countryside and she also walks with a stick.

She was filmed filming scenes for the drama in Hertfordshire, alongside her co-star Celia Imrie, who stood out in a red knitted hat in her role as former nurse Joyce Meadowcroft.

The duo, who also starred together in the hit film Calendar Girls, filmed scenes in which they board a bus and visit a local police station.

The story revolves around a group of elderly friends who try to solve murders in their retirement home, but then they discover that they have a real case on their plate.

The cast includes stars including Pierce Brosnan, Daniel Mays, David Tennant and Richard E. Grant.

Osman’s wife Ingrid Oliver will play the role of Joyce’s daughter Joanna, although the author insists this was not his idea.

The former Pointless co-host’s debut novel, set in the Coopers Chase Retirement Village in the fictional town of Fairhaven, Kent, was a hit in 2020 and he has since written three more books in the series.
