The 76-year-old singer suffered damage to his vocal cords during their tour last year, the band announced in a statement on Friday.
Last year, the iconic rock band was forced to postpone their farewell tour after their frontman suffered a vocal cord injury and has yet to return.
The statement to their fans continued: ‘WE HAVE ALWAYS AMAZED YOU WHEN YOU PERFORM. AS YOU KNOW, STEVENS VOICE IS AN INSTRUMENT LIKE NO OTHER. HE WORKED TIRELESSLY FOR MONTHS TO GET HIS VOICE IN PLACE BEFORE HE WAS INJURED. WE HAVE SEEN HIM STRUGGLE DESPITE HAVING THE BEST MEDICAL TEAM BY HIS SIDE.
“Unfortunately, it is clear that full recovery from his vocal injury is not possible. We have made a heartbreaking and difficult, but necessary decision – as a band of brothers – to withdraw from the touring stage.”
They concluded their heartfelt message to their millions of fans by expressing their gratitude to them and everyone who contributed to making them one of the most iconic acts in rock ‘n’ roll history.
The statement concluded: “WE ARE UNDESCRIBEDLY GRATEFUL TO EVERYONE WHO ENJOYED JOURNEYING WITH US. GRATEFUL TO OUR EXPERT CREW, OUR INCREDIBLE TEAM, AND THE THOUSANDS OF TALENTED PEOPLE WHO MADE OUR HISTORIC JOURNEYS POSSIBLE.
‘A FINAL THANK YOU TO YOU – THE BEST FANS ON PLANET EARTH. PLAY OUR MUSIC LOUD, NOW AND ALWAYS. KEEP DREAMING. YOU MADE OUR DREAMS COME TRUE.’
