  • It was a glorious day of medal collecting for Team GB at the Paris Olympics
  • Three gold medals were won on Friday, followed by silver medals in the pool and on the water
  • Team GB currently sit third in the overall medal table, behind China and France.

Team GB had a fantastic Friday at the Paris Olympics, taking home three gold medals in a thrilling three-hour race.

Rowers Emily Craig and Imogen Grant opened the gold rush by winning the lightweight double sculls, taking revenge for the narrow fourth place they had achieved in Tokyo three years ago.

Bryony Page was then triumphant on the trampoline to complete her Olympic medal haul, before Ben Maher, Harry Charles and Scott Brash won the team title in show jumping, Charles emulating his father Peter’s success at the 2012 London Olympics.

Ollie Wynne-Griffith and Tom George took Britain’s first medal on day seven with silver in the men’s rowing event after being beaten at the finish line by Canada.

Diving duo Anthony Harding and Jack Laugher then took bronze in the three-metre synchronised springboard, with Team GB claiming three gold medals in quick succession.

Bryony Page, 33, looked thrilled at the end of her routine, which was the toughest of the competition, after crushing her eight moves

Great Britain claimed two more silver medals in swimming during the evening, as Ben Proud finished second in the 50m freestyle and Duncan Scott came second to Leon Marchand in the 200m individual medley. The French star claimed his fourth gold medal of his home Games.

Scott now sits joint second on the list of most decorated British Olympians, level with Bradley Wiggins on eight medals and behind only Jason Kenny on nine.

On Saturday, Max Whitlock will be hoping to win his fourth Olympic gold medal when he competes in the pommel horse final, while Adam Peaty will be hoping to recover from Covid-19 to race in the mixed 4x100m medley.

Meanwhile, Team GB were hoping to add another gold medal to their incredible collection on Friday as Bethany Shriever looks set to defend her Olympic women’s BMX title after completing the heats with ease.

Shriever was supposed to win the final, but a slow start left her stuck in traffic and unable to navigate the crowd, ultimately finishing last.

Great Britain now sits third in the medal table with nine gold medals on the seventh day of the Games, taking its total to 27.

Outside Team GB, there was fear in the pool on Friday morning after Slovakian athlete Tamara Potocka collapsed after swimming the heats of the 200m individual medley.

The 21-year-old competed in a heat of the women’s 200m medley at 10:30 (BST) this morning. When she emerged from the pool, she finished seventh, missing out on qualification for the later rounds.

She sat in obvious distress at the edge of the pool for a few seconds, while eight other swimmers were lining up for the next series, before falling backwards.

The organizers realized something was wrong and postponed the next swim until medical personnel arrived.

Doctors quickly placed an oxygen mask on the face of the young Slovakian, who lay motionless on the ground, before carefully placing her on a stretcher and quickly carrying her out of the La Defense arena as her British rival Abbie Wood looked on in horror.

Her condition is not yet known.
