AirBnB host reveals the BIZARRE way her nightmare guests ran up a $1,500 electricity bill during their stay

An AirBNB host has revealed a bizarre new rule she was forced to implement after a group of guests racked up thousands of dollars in electricity bills during their stay.

TikToker Ashley (@built.with.class) shared a story about a guest who stayed for three weeks and left her home in “five-star condition.” However, things took a dramatic turn when the energy bill arrived.

“The guy not only set up an electric vehicle station, which is usually expensive, it’s minimal. The guy also mined crypto,” she said.

The combined energy consumption resulted in a bill of $1,500.

After reviewing the footage from the exterior security cameras, Ashley said that when guests arrived, they “brought ten different computers.”

“It was cheaper for them to rent a house and pay for electricity that way.”

This experience prompted the host to implement a strict new policy banning cryptocurrency mining and electric vehicle charging at her property, which she felt she didn’t need to explain to AirBNB users.

And as if that wasn’t bad enough, the host also had to fight Airbnb to recoup the extra fees.

After providing documentation to the company, the crypto miners had no choice but to come clean. But paying the expensive bill was the least of the guest’s worries.

“He was extremely honest and made over $100,000 in those three weeks, so a $1,500 electric bill was nothing,” Ashley said in the comments.

Users in the comments who claim to also host through AirBNB indicated that they had to apply the same rule when listing their property on the app.

One user commented: ‘I don’t have crypto mining in my rules either. It’s ridiculous that we have to do this.’

Another said: ‘A guy told me he does this with Airbnbs and he was amazed he gets away with it.’

“My neighbor runs an Airbnb and they once had a guy who brought his work truck with a HUGE water tank in the back. He filled it up with the garden hose (we have water meters). Huge bill! New rule,” one user said.

“I saw an airbnb with two washers and dryers. A couple had moved in to run a laundry business, which was driving up the water and electricity bills,” said another.
