The Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold could be the thinnest and largest foldable phone when it hits the market
Googleâs next Pixel event is less than two weeks away, but that hasnât stopped insiders from flooding the internet with new leaks, as well as teasing the companyâs next-generation devices.
Now, according to Android HeadlinesThe Pixel 9 Pro Fold gets an interesting design as it is simultaneously one of the thinnest and heaviest foldable smartphones on the market.
Their source claims the device measures “155.2 x 77.1 x 10.5mm (closed) and 155.2 x 150.2 x 5.1mm (open)”. When folded, it’s 1.6mm thinner than the first Pixel Fold, and when unfolded it’s 0.7mm thinner. The report claims the next foldable has even shed a little weight, at 257g, almost 30g lighter than the previous generation.
As noted, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold will still be one of the heavier foldable phones today, however. Android Headlines points out that the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and OnePlus Open both weigh less, at just 239 grams apiece.
Large screen phone
Not only will the phone be lighter than before, but it will also reportedly have âthe largest display for a foldableâ when it launches. The publication says that the inner screen will be an â8-inch Super Actua Flex Displayâ that can reach a peak brightness of up to 2,700 nits. Currently, the most recent foldable phone with the largest inner screen is the Xiaomi MIX Fold 4 at 7.98 inches, but if you look at older models, the MIX Fold 2 is even larger at 8.02 inches.
On the other hand, the Pixel 9 Pro Foldâs outer screen is a 6.3-inch Actua Display. Itâs certainly larger than the Pixel Fold, but itâs no industry behemoth. Samsungâs Galaxy Z Fold 6 has an outer screen of the same size.
Now, you might be thinking, âWhatâs the catch?â Did Google make any serious compromises during development to create a large yet lightweight foldable? Judging by the leaks, there doesnât seem to be any major downsides, as far as we can tell. The Pixel 9 Pro Fold will be one of the heavier options among its contemporaries, but even then it will still weigh less than the Pixel Fold.
Another report from Android Headlines The Pixel 9 series claims that the smartphone has a 4,560mAh battery, which could be the smallest in the Pixel 9 series. It is said to last for 24 hours on a single charge, though that increases to 72 hours with Extreme Battery Saver enabled. That’s not a bad battery life, but the other three may do better, considering they can reach 100 hours in the same mode.
Additionally, the foldable phones are said to come with limited storage, maxing out at 512GB, while the Pixel 9 Pro and Pro XL could potentially offer a full terabyte of space.
As always, take this information with a grain of salt. We wonât know how the sleek design or the massive internal display will affect the smartphone until we get our hands on it and Google spills the beans. Stay tuned for our coverage of the launch event on August 13.
