A triathlete vomited Wednesday at the end of a gruelling men’s race at the Paris Olympics.

29-year-old Canadian Tyler Mislawchuk was broadcast live on television feeling physically sick after finishing ninth in an epic competition.

This happened after a tough race for the men, which ended in temperatures around 30 degrees Celsius in the French capital.

The race was won by Britain’s Alex Yee, who made a great comeback to overtake and pass New Zealander Hayden Wilde to take gold.

The event was postponed from Tuesday morning after organisers deemed the water quality in the Seine not good enough for the race.

It was only confirmed in the early hours that the races would go ahead on Wednesday, with the men’s races postponed until after the women’s race.

This meant that the end of the men’s competition coincided with a rise in temperatures, further increasing the level of difficulty for the competitors.

Organisers said samples taken showed ‘much lower’ levels of bacteria than the threshold for the event, and they now hope that future events in the river, the mixed relay triathlon and marathon swimming, will not face such uncertainty.

The 1.5 km swim, 40 km bike ride and 10 km run proved too much for some participants, including Mislawchuk.

Other athletes lay stretched out on the mat at the finish line after completing the energy-sapping course.
