Daniel Wiffen won the 800-meter freestyle at the Olympic Games, setting an Olympic record.

Wiffen, from County Armagh in Northern Ireland, became the first Irish male swimmer to ever win a medal at the Olympic Games.

Not only did he win a medal, he also stood on the podium when Amhran na bhFiann, the Irish national anthem, was played for the first time in a men’s swimming event.

The silver medal went to Bobby Finke, who won gold in the 800 meter freestyle at the Olympic Games in Tokyo.

The bronze went to Gregorio Paltrinieri, who took silver behind Finke in Tokyo three years ago.
