A nursing home worker filmed himself strangling a 94-year-old woman by wrapping cling film around her head, before sending the footage to a friend he wanted to impress, a court heard.

Christopher Johansson, 49, has been sentenced to life in prison for killing an elderly woman while visiting a nursing home in Strömstad, Sweden.

Parts of the murder sequence were filmed by the 49-year-old and shared in a group for Fortnite gamers, Express report.

The 94-year-old woman was found dead in her home last November. Because it was suspected that she had died of natural causes, she was cremated and buried.

However, a few weeks later, the gamers contacted police and told them they suspected the woman of murder.

A press release from the Uddevalla District Court stated that the woman was very old, physically inferior to Johansson and defenseless.

“The incident took place in the woman’s own home, where the 49-year-old was working to help the woman. It must have been accompanied by a strong fear of death and serious suffering for the woman,” the court wrote.

In a conversation with someone from the gaming group, Johansson said he had experienced his first death at his job in home care in Strömstad Municipality.

A few hours later he wrote to the woman again: ‘Suppose you could be excited by the power to kill someone today?’

When she answered yes, he sent the woman a video showing parts of the murder.

In the approximately three-and-a-half minute clip, the 94-year-old is seen with plastic wrap wrapped around her face, and at several points her hand is seen reaching out and grabbing her neck.

Johansson subsequently turned himself in to police and was charged in May of this year.

During the investigation, he was found to have an interest in content depicting murder, torture and other serious violent crimes. However, according to the Coroner’s Office, he was not suffering from a serious mental disorder at the time of the act.

In addition to a life sentence, Johansson must also pay SEK 110,000 (£7,935) in damages to the woman’s daughters and compensate the estate for funeral expenses.
