I look the best I’ve ever looked at 47. This is the ‘king’ exercise that’s the secret to my health – and the foods I swear by

An Australian fitness coach has revealed which exercise she believes is best for good health.

Gold Coast’s Belinda Norton says running has “more health and biomechanical benefits” than any other form of exercise. Plus, it’s free.

The 47-year-old health and fitness education expert and certified trainer says adults often give up running for a variety of reasons, including mindset, discomfort or ego.

However, she stressed that this form of cardio should not be ignored and encouraged others to take up running regularly.

“Did you know that running is a survival mechanism for the body? It’s a normal function, but as humanity has evolved, it’s become a choice,” she wrote on Instagram.

“This is at the expense of humanity. You think – from a child who first started walking as a toddler, they run even when they’re unsteady. So why do adults stop running? Mindset. Discomfort. Ego.

“I want you to survive longer. Live with mobility. I want you to see your abilities. I encourage you to teach yourself to run again. Today is the day. Go for it! It’s your life on the line.”

Belinda also revealed the nine foods she eats daily for good health and a slim, toned body.

Before exercising, it is important to warm up your lower body with different running exercises, focusing on your legs, feet, calves, shins, thighs and hips. Belinda demonstrates this in an Instagram video.

For example, perform a set of high knees, side shuffle, A-skips, B-skips, bouncing, walking backwards, and strides for 30 seconds.

The super-fit mom has built a following on social media for sharing her health secrets.

Last year she said she’s a fan of foods that “grow in the earth and the sea,” such as salmon, carrots, brown rice and broccoli.

She also applies this approach to her children, making sure their breakfast, lunch and dinner are packed with “real, healthy food.”

What are the benefits of running every day?

Research shows that running for just five to ten minutes every day at a moderate pace can provide the following benefits:

  • reduced risk of death from heart attack or stroke
  • reduced risk of cardiovascular disease
  • lower risk of developing cancer
  • lower risk of developing neurological diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease and Parkinson’s disease

“Did you know that soil grown foods and foods grown in seawater have higher mineral content than any other food source?” Belinda posted on Instagram.

The nine foods you should include in your diet are fish, whole carrots, homemade granola, oranges, avocados, leafy greens, lettuce, broccoli, brown rice, and quinoa.

Belinda also eats one raw whole carrot and two cucumbers every day.

When she eats these, she doesn’t peel or cut them, but washes them and eats them whole.

“All-organic, earth-grown foods provide our bodies with nutrients and minerals that no other product can provide,” says Belinda.

‘They are inexpensive, they encourage chewing and they are perfectly portioned to provide and maintain energy.’

Belinda added that the fiber in carrots helps control blood sugar levels, while eating cucumbers hydrates the body and leads to health benefits including “weight loss, balanced hydration, regular digestion, and lower blood sugar levels.”

Belinda’s 5 Tricks to ‘Eat and Train Like a Girl’

1. Quality over quantity: Focus on 60 minutes of moving your body properly and purposefully.

2. Use weights: A speed circuit with 5-7 kg hand weights will improve your overall muscle strength and mobility

3. Train with alignment in mind: Focus on how the muscles in your body move to create results. You should especially think about your hips and lower back if you are a woman due to pregnancy and menopause. For this reason, yoga is key to ensuring alignment and limiting injury.

4. Focus on yourself: Avoid a ‘crazy competitive mindset’ and think about your own body, fitness and health.

5. Eat small, quality meals often: Instead of opting for large, energy-dense, exhausting meals, Belinda recommends creating lots of energy throughout the day and eating smaller, healthy meals to avoid crashing. As much as possible, make sure these meals contain real, whole foods.
