Moviegoer hits out at AMC Theatres for blatant money grab after noticing sneaky charge on their receipt: ‘You’re not driving it to my house’

A moviegoer has lashed out at AMC Theaters after finding a sneaky fee on their receipt.

TikToker Kikntiger expressed his frustration in a video titled “Quite a weak move AMC Theatres.” The clip has been viewed 1.2 million times since Thursday.

In it, he explained that after placing an order for popcorn and two large drinks totaling nearly $24, he was charged a $2 delivery fee in addition to the usual $1 service charge.

“The delivery costs INSIDE a movie theater are insane,” he wrote in the clip.

“Companies are losing control with their rates,” Kikntiger begins his 45-second tirade.

“This is for concessions at a movie theater. You know, this isn’t Door Dash!” he said incredulously, referring to the popular food delivery app.

“This is at the movie theater near me, where the only option to get snacks is to have them brought right to your seat,” Kikntiger continued.

“You can’t just go to the snack bar and order whatever you want and walk into the theater. So, okay, whatever — but then they charge you $2 to deliver it 25 feet from the kitchen? You’re not driving it to my house, are you? And then you charge a dollar service fee? For what? For the privilege of ordering food?”

Kikntiger said he felt he had to speak out in this particular case because the $2 fee is unavoidable when buying food at the AMC branch he frequents.

“I understand that concessions are expensive; I don’t care. But to just impose a $2 fee on me that I can’t avoid? Ridiculous,” he says at the end of his video.

The post received a lot of sympathy from other online followers.

“Just bring your own food. They never check. You can literally bring a bag full of food and drinks,” one commentator advised.

“I worked at an AMC Dine-In and even I can’t think of a reason for this charge,” added another.

“Are they going to charge a fee for filling the soft drinks and a fee for bagging the popcorn?” wondered a third.

Others reacted less positively to Kikntiger’s complaint.

“If you pay $7.50 for a Coke Zero, you might as well pay $2,” the guess was.

“Dude, if you want them to work for free, they should bring it to you while you sit and relax. Come on, stop being Karen. Ken,” added a second.

It seems that the addition of fees is nothing new, as a Reddit thread on the topic already appeared in 2021.

“After ordering tickets online for a DINE IN theater, I was asked if I wanted to order food in advance. I thought this seemed like a cool new feature, after I ordered my food, I was shown the price and a $2.00 delivery fee was added. I just canceled the order because I thought I wanted to see them present this in person,” the Redditer wrote.

The poster suggested that the charges should be included in the total cost of the items ordered and not listed as an additional charge at the end of the bill.

“This just seems so stupid. It’s a DINE IN where the whole point is to order food and have it brought to your seat,” they added.

A check of Dine-In AMC locations confirms that an additional $3 is added to each order tab. According to the TikTok video, the fee consists of a $2 delivery fee and a $1 service fee.

AMC locations without the Dine-In option charge a flat $1 fee for the service.
