Trafalgar, Victoria: Manhunt underway for driver who struck pedestrian and left them for dead

The search is underway for the driver responsible for the suspected death in a collision.

The pedestrian, believed to be in his 60s, was found dead on the side of the road when passers-by found his body around 10:30 a.m. on Sunday.

The man was walking along Waterloo Rd in the town of Trafalgar in Victoria’s West Gippsland region when he was hit.

Although police have not yet officially identified the man, detectives believe he was struck by a car on Waterloo Rd, east of Davey Dr, sometime between Saturday night and Sunday morning or in the early hours of the morning.

Detectives from the Major Collision Investigation Unit are appealing to anyone who may have seen the man walking in the area, or who has dashcam or CCTV footage of the incident, to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

According to police, he was wearing a black tracksuit, a white checked shirt, black sweatpants with two white stripes on the sides and no shoes.

Detective Peter Romanis of the unit will speak to the media on Monday morning and is expected to share more details about the incident.

The man is the 162nd victim to die in fatal road crashes in Victoria this year.
