Tsuburaya Productions’ Ultraman and Marvel Comics’ Spider-Man are teaming up for Ultraman: A spider came alongViz Media announced at San Diego Comic-Con. While Ultraman has crossed over with Marvel characters before, this is the first time Spider-Man and Ultraman have teamed up.
The story and writing are by Shinji Oishi and Shigenobu Matsumoto, the art is by Sword Art Online: Alicization Lycoris illustrator Tomo Hirokawa. The comic will be released simultaneously in Japanese and English in comic shops and on the digital service Viz Manga starting August 14.
The official plot description is below:
On Marvel Earth, Spider-Man joins forces with the Avengers to battle Doctor Doom in New York City, but when several civilians are killed in a collapsed building, Spider-Man is demoralized and is taken aboard a strange spaceship called the Interdimensional Train. Doctor Doom stows away aboard, and they both find themselves in Tokyo in the Ultraman universe! Witnessing Ultraman battling a giant Kaiju, Doom lusts after the power of the Giant of Light and joins forces with Alien Mefilas and his army of Kaiju from the Monster Graveyard to steal it.
This isn’t the only Ultraman and Marvel crossover on the horizon. In fact, the previously announced Ultraman x Avengers crossover drops on the same day. That one comes from Kyle Higgins (The Rise of Ultraman) and Mat Groom (The Trials of Ultraman) as writers and Francesco Manna (The Great Spider Man) as the artist. Combine that with the new Ultraman: Rise movie is coming out this year, and we’re preparing for a hot Ultraman summer.
