Watch UCLA head football coach DeShaun Foster give an extremely awkward opening statement at Big Ten Media Days

It’s safe to say DeShaun Foster has never faced a crowd like he did on Wednesday at Big Ten Media Days.

One sign that college football is not far off is the days when the media has the power.

The theme of media days is to support the head coaches in front of hundreds of media to present material about the preparation for the season.

Foster didn’t give them much to write about, other than that he had little to say about his Bruins.

For his introductory press conference at UCLA, Foster was greeted by a lively crowd that was excited about his arrival. It was crickets for his time in Indianapolis.

UCLA head football coach DeShaun Foster gave a shaky opening statement this week

Below are some gems from the opening statement from the former UCLA running backs coach, who was at the helm prior to this season.

“Football-wise, we’re just excited,” Foster said.

“I’m sure you guys don’t know much about UCLA, our football program, but we’re in L.A.,” Foster said. “It’s us and USC.”

“I’m just really excited, that’s all.”

Many top coaches use their opening statements at media days to fire up the atmosphere, taking the pressure off reporters and gathering information about their teams ahead of the season.

Foster’s response said little about the Bruins, as UCLA is one of four former Pac-12 teams joining the Big Ten this season.

Of all the newcomers, UCLA has by far the least expectations, behind USC, Washington and Oregon.

Foster did nothing to break that trend during his appearance at Big Ten Media Days.
