The 26-year-old received medical attention while in the water and was then pulled from the surf.

Robinson was then helped onto the beach and taken by ambulance to a medical facility.

The West Australian is considered one of the best barrel riders in the world and many predict that he will win Olympic gold.

The opening rounds get underway on Sunday, July 28 (AEST), meaning Robinson won’t have much time to recover before his first heats.

The Australian surfing team has Ryan Callinan and Sally Fitzgibbons on hand as replacements in the event that no surfers are available.

Meanwhile, Robinson’s mother told reporters earlier this week that she would fly to Tahiti to see him compete in real life.

“He got used to surfing big waves early on,” she told the Southwest Times.
