Young woman who went to the dentist for a simple root canal is left horrified after discovering she was given veneers
A young woman claims she was given veneers during a horrific visit to the dentist, which were supposed to be for a routine root canal.
Caitlyn Weld, 22, posted a viral video of the shocking moment she realized all of her front teeth had been trimmed in preparation for the fake teeth.
While in college, Weld moved from Tennessee to Florida. She went to a new dentist when she discovered she had a cavity in a tooth that needed treatment.
Because Weld didn’t know what to expect, she had no idea her teeth were being prepared for aesthetic teeth until it was too late. She claims the dentist told her they assumed that was what she wanted.
“I didn’t have a mirror with me the whole time, so I couldn’t see what was happening,” Weld said on TikTokMy teeth are literally shaved off.

Weld said the dentist ground down her teeth because they assumed she wanted veneers and she went along with it because she didn’t know any better.
‘I was scared, so I asked the lady when we got into the room, “What does a root canal feel like? Is it going to hurt, can you explain the procedure to me?” But she didn’t speak English very well, so I never really knew.’
Weld couldn’t believe it when she finally saw her shaved smile, but she said she went with it because the dentist told her to.
“They told me that the hole in one of my teeth, which I had had a root canal for, was so severe that they had taken precautions to prevent it from developing in one of my teeth,” she said.
‘[The dentist said] Girls my age usually want all their teeth to be the same color and they don’t want one color to be brighter than the rest. They also told me that this was necessary to protect my teeth.
‘I just thought, “Okay,” I was stupid, I was 18, I had no idea about teeth, nothing, so I just did it. They made it sound like it was necessary, we didn’t know any better.’
Applying permanent veneers was painful and Weld claimed she was given irregular temporary veneers that she had to file down so she could eat.
“I remember when they took the temporary ones out, the air just hit what was left. That was probably the worst pain I’ve ever seen,” she said.

Now, several years later, Weld finally dares to share her story and show her new smile.
“These are my teeth now, they don’t look all that different than the old teeth. I feel like they’re a little bit longer, and I also bite down really hard on my gums when I chew, which I never used to do,” Weld said.
Weld chose not to name the dentist because she thinks it’s a funny story and she’s learned to live with it.
Veneers have become more popular in recent years, due to the desire to achieve a pearly white smile. Nearly 600,000 people have them done each year.
For veneers, dentists must clean and file the teeth before applying pearly white coverings with superglue to the front, costing up to $4,000 per tooth, or $40,000 per smile.
