For the first time, an 11-year-old Irish girl has been photographed, dying after jumping 20 metres from a hotel balcony in Mallorca ‘while her parents were asleep’.

Tributes have poured in for Clodagh Phelan from County Wicklow after she fell from the seventh floor of the three-star Club Mac resort in Puerto de Alcudia at around 6.30am on Monday morning.

The girl’s relatives are said to have been asleep when she walked onto the terrace, leaned over the railing and then fell onto the roof of a first-floor restaurant.

Emergency services and other aid workers rushed to the hotel and tried to resuscitate the girl, but she died on the spot.

Spain’s Guardia Civil confirmed to Irish media this morning that they are treating Clodagh’s death as an accident.

Ireland’s Prime Minister Simon Harris wrote in an article on X that “so much promise and personality has been lost in a terrible accident.”

Clodagh’s Parnell AC athletics club also paid a moving tribute to the young athlete.

It read: ‘Parnell AC is deeply saddened to announce the terrible news of the passing of Clodagh Phelan, one of our young athletes and friend to many of our younger athletes.

‘Clodagh tragically passed away after an accident on holiday. Clodagh was a beautiful, energetic child and a great athlete who excelled in many sports, not just track and field.

‘Her family Valerie, Liam, Will and David and the rest of the family are in our hearts, thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.

‘Out of respect and to give us all time to grieve the loss of Clodagh, there will be no training until further notice.’

Rathdrum Rugby Club said its members were ‘shocked by the tragic news of the passing of our much loved club star’.

In a statement, the club said Clodagh was “a rare talent with a great future ahead of him”.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with her family and we will support them in every way we can,” the magazine added.

It is believed that the family affected by the tragedy was expected to return home yesterday.

After the tragedy, a regional emergency coordination center provided trauma therapists to the boy’s family.

An insider said yesterday: ‘The deceased girl was one of three children.

The family were due to return to Ireland today.

‘The girl’s parents were asleep when she fell and only later realized what had happened.’

The tragedy came just weeks after Irish physiotherapist Michael Grant died suddenly while on holiday in Magaluf.

The 45-year-old Waterford man was found unconscious at around 4.30am near the resort’s notorious Punta Bellena promenade, which is home to numerous bars, nightclubs and lap dancing venues.

Mr Grant was on holiday in Magaluf with his wife Leanne and their four children and other families from Ireland when the tragedy occurred.
