Warframe’s 2024 journey includes a Metal Gear-inspired mission and an instant messaging date

Warframe has been updated consistently since its launch in 2013, but Digital Extreme’s next round of planned updates may be among its most ambitious yet. According to this year’s TennoCon, the annual convention that Warframe (and now the sister project Soul Frame), we will get three more updates in 2024.

The first of these updates, Lotus Eaters, will set the stage for the upcoming overarching story that will culminate in the hugely ambitious multiversal Warframe99.

Lotus Eaters will feature a short quest that will reveal the latest Whispering in the walls story about the long-time antagonist the Man in the Wall with the upcoming Warframe99. We don’t know much about this August update, other than our space mother Lotus will likely be involved in some way. The update will also add Sevagoth Prime; Primes are more powerful variations of original Warframes, and are coveted for their better stats and cool cosmetics.

A second, unnamed update is planned after Lotus Eaters. This update is even more mysterious, and we won’t know much more about it until Digital Extremes’ debut presentation at Tokyo Game Show. This update includes a Caliban rework for one of the game’s less popular Warframes, and all players will receive Caliban for free.

Finally, in the winter of 2024, we can experience the visually innovative Warframe99. This alt-Earth story takes place in a version of 1999 that is clearly inspired by anime and the Metal Gear franchise. Six Protoframes, humans who have fused with Warframe suits, form a syndicate called the Hex. The player can use an AIM-style chat client to learn more about each Protoframe, and even romance them for a New Year’s kiss.

It’s an intriguing time to be a Warframe fan. After Digital Extremes was launched The New Warmany of the long-standing questions and crises in Warframe were somehow wrapped up. The game clearly has plenty of life left in it, though — and an infusion of ’90s energy, boy band and all, is just a sign of how unpredictable that journey is.
