Majid Jamshidi Doukoshkan: Update on immigration detainee accused of bashing grandmother Ninette Smons in her Perth home
The immigrant who was in custody and accused of assaulting and robbing an elderly couple months after he was released from an indefinite detention order will remain in custody while he faces a series of charges related to the alleged horrific incident.
Majid Jamshidi Doukoshkan appeared in Perth District Court via video link from Albany Regional Prison on Monday, charged with the violent home invasion of couple Ninette, 73, and Philip Simons, 76.
The court was told that his lawyer was awaiting additional information from investigating officers before the case could proceed.
He is accused of posing as a police officer to gain entry to the couple’s home in Girrawheen at around 7pm on April 16.
The couple were allegedly tied up, assaulted and robbed by three men.
Police allege that Mr. Simons opened the door and was immediately pushed to the ground, his hands tied behind his back.
Mrs Simons, a grandmother, was reportedly held to the ground and punched several times in the face, causing her to lose consciousness.
The group is accused of stealing jewelry and other items worth more than $200,000 from the couple.

He was among prisoners released from Perth’s Yongah Hill detention centre in November last year after a High Court ruling ruled it was illegal to hold indefinitely prisoners who could not be deported.
On March 22, a court order requiring Mr Jamshidi Doukoshkan to remain at a fixed address was lifted after the order had been in effect for about a month.
Weeks later, he was allegedly involved in the horrific crime that took place in the elderly couple’s home.
Mr Jamshidi Doukoshkan is due to appear in Perth District Court on September 2. He continues to face a range of charges including theft, assault, impersonating a police officer, burglary, detention for gain and drug possession.
