Fernando Hierro believes Manchester City star Erling Haaland is not finished yet
Real Madrid legend thinks Haaland still has a way to go to overtake LaLiga top strikers
Despite seemingly mastering the art of scoring, Haaland’s overall skills and ‘repertoire’ are currently inferior to Benzema and Lewandowski, the Spaniard said.
Hierro has also supported Haaland to reach the heights of the pair in the future.
“In my days we suffered Ronaldo (Nazario) – the fantastic striker of the time. I think Haaland has great potential. He is a young player and he has scored about 150 goals,” he explained to El Clasico.
“He is a strong player, a modern player. He doesn’t need to touch the ball often to score a goal and he plays well with other members of his team.
Star striker Karim Benzema is now the second highest goalscorer in Real Madrid history
“But players like Robert Lewandowski and Karim Benzema don’t have to show us anything. They have already shown their entire repertoire.
“When Real Madrid signed Karim, they wanted a player who would become top goalscorer and now he is the second highest scoring player in Madrid history.
“We also know that Lewandowski is a spectacular player. He’s not your typical number nine because he hangs out with his team more, but he still manages to score a lot of goals, like Benzema. He has also scored so many goals with the national team.
Robert Lewandowski has continued to show his goal-scoring talent since joining Barcelona
“Personally, I would rather have Lewandowski on my team than play against him. Lewandowski and Karim are in a very good period in their careers and so is Haaland.’
Hierro played over 400 games for Real Madrid between 1989 and 2003, while also representing Spain as a player and manager.
His former club will face bitter rivals Barcelona at the Bernabeu on Sunday, with the two Spanish giants tied at the top of LaLiga.
