American man, 42, found dead in Colombian rental after taking drug that has a heartbreaking use
An American man has been found dead in an apartment in Colombia after allegedly ingesting a drug used by veterinarians to euthanize pets.
Matthew Miller, 42, reportedly sent a Telegram message to his ex-girlfriend, who lives in Medellín, on Tuesday afternoon, complaining about the loss of a business he ran through an OnlyFans account and his home, a source with knowledge of the investigation told DailyMail.com.
The woman and three friends ran to the seventh-floor apartment in the Laureles neighborhood of Medellín and found the door closed.
One of the individuals accompanying Miller’s ex-girlfriend was able to enter the home and found him lying on a bed before authorities were called.
The source said Miller’s cause of death was suicide by poisoning.
They added that Miller and his ex-girlfriend, who has lived in Medellín for three years, ended their relationship a month ago. It is unknown how long they had been dating.

A police report obtained by Colombian news outlet Semana reveals that Matthew Miller took Thanesia, a drug used to euthanize pets
The source had been diagnosed with a personality disorder and was also struggling with depression.
A police report obtained by Colombian weekly Semana revealed that Miller had ingested Thanesia, a liquid chemical used to put pets to sleep.
“It is reported that the deceased sent a message to a close friend stating that he had lost the business and the house and also gave other reasons. This is the reason he decided to commit suicide,” the report said.
Bhupendra Kumal, a 66-year-old Irishman, was found dead on Tuesday in his hotel in the El Poblado neighborhood of Medellín.
Kumal arrived in the South American country in February and told hotel staff he was suffering from an illness.
The police report indicated that his body showed no signs of violence. An autopsy report is pending.
According to authorities, 16 of the 37 foreign visitors who died in Medellín and the Aburrá Valley in 2024 were U.S. citizens.
At least seven of the 37 deaths were recorded as suicides.
The deaths of Miller and Kumal come just five days after James Perry, a 41-year-old Ohio resident, jumped from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room, also in Laureles, state police said.
