1Password, the maker of one of the best password managers out there, has a new free tool to check whether the users of your application or website are ready to start using passwords.
Passkeys are a secure alternative to passwords and eliminate the need for generate passwords or use a password manager to create and store long, complex passwords.
The new version of 1Password Password ready This tool can provide you with information on how to transition to passwordless logins, and anonymized information on whether your users are ready to start using passkeys.
Are your users ready for passwords?
Passkey Ready checks if your users support passkeys on both the device and the browser. Once it has collected information on 100 users, it will generate an insight report showing if your users are ready to start using passkeys.
The report includes information about the percentage of users who are key ready, how key readiness changes over time, how key readiness varies across browsers and devices, and how key readiness changes based on geographic location.
This information can then be used to determine whether your users are ready to use passkeys, or whether it might be better to wait until more browsers and devices implement passkey support. The tool can help make your website or application more secure against cyberthreats and phishing, while making it easier to log in without having to type in passwords.
Passkeys work by using your phone or other device to verify that you are actually you, using biometric authentication or a PIN. They are particularly resistant to phishing attacks because the attacker cannot verify a login and passkeys are typically unique to their parent website, meaning that using a passkey on a malicious website will not work.
