Maharashtra Government announces vocational training and allowance scheme ahead of elections
Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Wednesday announced a vocational training and allowance scheme for youth, tentatively called the ‘Ladka Bhau’ Yojana, days after introducing a monthly cash assistance scheme for eligible women.
Shinde announced the broad outline of the new scheme, which is primarily aimed at men, at Pandharpur in Solapur district on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi.
“Some people said that ‘Ladki Bahin Yojana’ (for women) has been launched; what about ‘Ladka Bhau’ (beloved brother)? We are now announcing a scheme for Ladka Bhau under which job seekers who have passed class 12 will get Rs 6,000, diploma holders Rs 8,000 and those with a bachelor’s degree Rs 10,000. They will get this allowance from the government during their on-job training in the industry,” Shinde told reporters.
The candidate will do the apprenticeship and get a job. At the same time, the industry will benefit from the trained manpower, he said, adding that the apprenticeship will be funded by the state government.
“This is the first time in history that the state government has initiated such a plan,” the prime minister said.
Shinde stressed that this initiative aims to provide a solution and addressed concerns about unemployment.
“The state government pays the allowance during the apprenticeship of the youth in the industry,” he added.
Under the ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin’ scheme announced in the state budget, married, divorced and destitute women between the ages of 21 and 60 will receive Rs 1,500 per month, with the annual family income of the beneficiaries capped at Rs 2.5 lakh.
