Bulldog with a talent for predicting who’ll win footy games gives her tip for tonight’s State of Origin clash

A football tipster who went viral for predicting the outcome of NRL matches has picked the team that will win Wednesday night’s State of Origin tiebreaker. And it’s not good news for Maroons fans.

The bulldog, named Gnocchi, has become known for her talent for picking winners on the Cast Patrol podcast. The podcast shows her choosing between two balloons in her team’s colors to make her predictions.

For example, last week in round 19 of the NRL she correctly predicted four out of five matches.

On Wednesday morning she was a guest on Adrian, Mick and Jimmy from Channel Nine’s Today Show podcast, where presenter and Queensland fanatic Karl Stefanovic nervously awaited the result.

After watching footage of Gnocchi correctly predicting NSW would win the second game of the series and Mitchell Moses being named man of the match, Stefanovic said: “I feel a blunder coming.”

Gnocchi’s owner Mick then explained that the bulldog’s talent was discovered when he needed help coming last in a soccer match. She predicted seven out of eight matches that week.

The trio – who all appear to be NSW fans – then explained that they used food as bait to get her to make choices, but were advised against it for health reasons and switched to balloons, as Gnocchi was ‘too crazy’ for them.

Mick then blew up blue and maroon balloons in front of a very excited Gnocchi, before placing them on the ground in front of her, accompanied by the logos of the NSW and Queensland Origin teams, while Adrian stopped her from running over them.

When Gnocchi was released, it looked like she would choose the Maroons, but suddenly she made a choice and chose the Blues.

Stefanovic pretended to be devastated, while Nine sports presenters Alex Cullen and Brooke Boney celebrated wildly with the Cast Patrol members.

“It’s okay, Carlos. Are you okay?” co-host Sarah Abo asked.

“What a stupid idea for a segment,” Stefanovic replied.

Most bookmakers disagree with Gnocchi’s predictions, making Queensland the favourites to win the series for the third year in a row.

NSW have not won a deciding match in Brisbane since 2005, having only won once before that when they defeated the Cane Toads 27-12 in 1994.
