Network Rail has released footage of the terrifying moment when a father leaves his toddler to play on a train track while looking back.
The disturbing clip shows the man waiting behind the line taking a phone call as his small child walks and plays along the track, clearly oblivious to the risks involved.
The CCTV video of the level crossing at Chestnut Grove, in Burton Joyce, Nottinghamshire, was shared by the company, describing how ‘disturbing’ the footage is.
In the heart-pounding incident, the little boy jumps off the track while his distracted father just glances down the line to check for trains arriving.
Showing some shocking events in which the public has put themselves in danger in recent months, the video begins with a group of young people running off the track and onto the track.
Other close calls in the video include a dog walker taking a leisurely stroll across the crosswalk with his pet running loose, something Network Rail warns of.

An oncoming train honks at the man to get out of the way before thundering toward him, missing the shocked walker by seconds.
Another parent also stands back in a safer area with a buggy as their child cycles down the path.
In another bizarre moment, a man calmly walks the busy tracks with a kayak.
Network Rail, which manages Britain’s rail infrastructure, has said the incidents are a safety concern for the public who are unaware of the dangers posed by busy rail lines.

Following the incidents, the local community is being invited to a safety session this Saturday after Network Rail saw an increase in reckless behavior at the popular level crossing.
Anna Ebblewhite, Level Crossing Manager for Network Rail, said: “We’ve seen incredibly disturbing behavior at the Burton Joyce level crossing, which shows how unaware some residents are of how dangerous the rail line can be.”
“That’s why we’re providing this interactive session to help residents understand how to use the crossing safely and ultimately improve community safety.”

City councilor Mike Adams described the “risks some are currently taking when crossing the track” as “terrifying to watch.”
He urged the public to exercise caution and educate themselves about the dangers of crossing tracks, warning that otherwise they risk losing the crossing altogether.
The busy footpath crosses the line from Nottingham to Lincoln and sees some 70 high-speed trains passing daily.
In the year 2019 to 2020, six people were killed on level crossings, while 17 were fatalities from entering the track, according to Network Rail.
