Kylie Minogue lifts the lid on her time on Neighbours in the 1980s and kissing ex Jason Donovan in her car
Kylie Minogue has revealed her role in Neighbours.
The singer and actress’s career took off when she played the role of auto mechanic Charlene Robinson between 1986 and 1988.
Although the 56-year-old is handy with cars in the series, he does not possess such skills in real life.
“I think I almost blew up my car,” she told Nova 96.9 Fitzy & Wippa with Kate Ritchie on Tuesday.
My father was ashamed, and I played a mechanic [on Neighbours] I forgot to buy gas and water, but when I got home there was smoke coming out of my Datsun everywhere.’
Kylie said she took her old one with her on a few road trips in between filming the series.
‘I probably took it with me to Lorne, but I mainly just sat on the set of Neighbours at 6.30am in Ramsay Street with my script in the passenger seat and learned it as I went!’ she said.
When asked if she remembered kissing her TV love – and former real-life boyfriend – Jason Donovan in the car, Kylie played it coy.

“I would never reveal that… Well, maybe I did!” she joked.
Donovan admitted that his romance with Kylie was “real” and that the pop star was his first real relationship.
The couple, who met as teenagers during their roles on the soap opera Neighbours, dated for five years before splitting in 1989.
The duo returned for the soap’s 2022 finale, reprising their characters Charlene and Scott Robinson.
Neighbours returned in September 2023 on a new platform: Amazon Freevee.

Meanwhile, Kylie has angered fans by accidentally confirming an upcoming Australian tour in a surprise radio announcement.
The pop star last toured Down Under during her Golden Tour in March 2019. Now a new series of concerts is planned in the country.
She let the news slip on Monday during an appearance on The Fox’s Fifi, Fev & Nick program, where she was questioned about rumours of an Australian tour.
After initial hesitation, Kylie confirmed that she will be returning to the country for the first time in over five years for her Australian tour.
“I wouldn’t reveal something like that… Well, maybe I did!” she joked
When Brendan Fevola asked her the burning question, Kylie answered uncertainly: “Uh… I want to say yes. Yes. The answer is yes! We’re just finalizing the details.”
“Maybe I wasn’t supposed to say that, but yeah,” she added, while keeping the dates of the upcoming tour under wraps.
The singer also said it is her “dream” to sell out the iconic 100,000 capacity Melbourne Cricket Ground on her next tour.
“Now that’s a dream. That would be really great one day,” she cheered, as Fev assured her that she could “definitely” sell out the venue.
“Well, if you invite all your friends! You guys are pretty popular,” Kylie joked in response.
Earlier this year, Kylie was rumored to be planning an Australia tour after her headlining performance at Splendour In The Grass was canceled.
